Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist who put assisted suicide on the world’s medical ethics stage, died this morning. 83 year old Kevorkian died at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where he’d been hospitalized for about two weeks with kidney and heart problems.
Notorious for his right-to-die activism, the trained pathologist assisted in the suicides of approximately 130 terminal patients (by his count). He was convicted in 1999 of second-degree murder and served eight years in prison.
